Baby Watch – Week #8

baby-development-8-weeks-pregnant2Hello again and welcome to another edition of Baby Watch! We are now up to week #8 and things are finally starting to happen (outside of a odd craving for lots of brownies). For Erin the tiredness continues but we now have a new symptom in a little morning sickness. Lucky it has not been to bad, but I guess even a little sick is sick enough. This is also the first week that Erin is sort of, maybe, kind of showing.. a little. So that is pretty exciting. We have the first doctors appointment coming this next Monday so hopefully next’s weeks update will have something cool to report from that. As for me I seem to be having sympathy symptoms. I am tired, I like brownies, and I have been waking up a lot in the middle of the night. Although that last one is probably from someone getting up to pee every 27 minutes.

limabeanDSC_3647On to the baby site, this week they say the baby is more then a half inch long or about the size of a lima bean. I am not sure how much the lima bean part helps since I can’t remember the last time I actually seen a lima been. But they are the baby site so who am I to argue. They also say things like fingers and toes are developing and stuff like wrists, elbows, and ankles are now visible. The link for week #9 says “Hormones Shifting Gears” and to be honest I am scared as hell to click on it. Lets just hope they are talking about my hormones and not Eri…. sorry I have to go, I am being yelled at because the ice cubes in the freezer are “way too frozen“. See ya next week!

Avery June Sloan

Erin and I finally got a chance to go over and see Kelly and Steve’s new baby. Avery June Sloan was born on August 17th, 2009 and is as pretty as a picture! In fact, to prove it I took about a million of them! She is super cute and outside of a few times she hardly made a sound. When she did cry while I was holding her I beleive it was because Erin was pinching her. That way she could say.. Give me that baby, your making her cry. But it’s cool… when Erin wasn’t around Avery said she liked me best. Anyway, take a look at all the cute pictures I took in the Avery June Sloan album on the Greatlandings Photo site.

PS – Funny to think that in one short afternoon I was able to take 150 pictures of baby Avery, just imagine how many I am going to be able to get done when I have my own baby… captive… here in the house… unable to get away… just sayin’…

People of WalMart!

186This was just too funny to not pass along. The website is People of WalMart, and it is a collection of pictures taken at WalMart. One of my favorite pastimes here in Kentucky is to people watch at the new giant WalMart on Houston road. I have seen some pretty good stuff over there, but nothing like some of these pictures. What is even funnier are the comments written below them. A friend of mine gave me the link, and I spent the next 60 minutes looking at every single picture on the site, and laughing till my guts hurt. So here I am to pass it along to you. Enjoy~

Baby Watch – Week #7

baby-development-7-weeks-pregnantIt is Wednesday and you know what that means! That’s right, it is time for another edition of Baby Watch! We are up to week seven now and so far so good. Not much has changed in the last week. Erin seems to be doing fine although she is still very tired and had just a little sickness here and there, but nothing too bad. About the worst thing she has had to deal with lately involved some soreness sensitivity that required us to go shopping for new bras. Oddly enough none of the ones I picked made the cut.

So since she is not giving me much to write about here I will just talk about myself. So far I have been great! Golf, little Xbox, pretty much business as usual for me. No morning sickness, no tiredness, only a slight back ache but I am pretty sure it is unrelated to this pregnancy.

Moving on to what the baby website says. This week brings us facial features, and more defined arms and legs. While word on the street is next week we could see some fingers and toes make an appearance. Current length is about 1/3 to 1/2 inch, or about the size of your pinky fingernail! See ya next week!

Welcome Jada Payne!

7820_137169719853_631029853_2362563_1690472_nIn case you haven’t heard the news Simmie and Julie got an early surprise this past Saturday. While getting ready to head over to Adam and Sarah’s house for dinner a certain little baby girl was making other plans. Coming just over a month early little baby Jada Payne decided the time was now and Simmie and Julie headed to the hospital instead. Born at 5:35PM on Saturday September 19th, and weighing just 4 lbs 15 oz baby Jada Payne was born healthy and happy. Both mom and baby are home and reported to be doing great. Congrats Simmie and Julie!

You can see pictures of baby Jada on the hospital website by clicking HERE.

The future looks bright…

RightEyeSo I just had to share this with y’all because it has just blown my mind. Earlier this week I went to the eye doctor for a checkup as part of that diabetes thing I got going. While there they explained a new service they offered for an additional $40 that would take a photo of the inside of your eye. After telling us all the great stuff they could learn from this picture, and how it was recently used to help early diagnose cancer in one person I casually asked if I could have a copy of this photo. When they said yes, I signed up immediately!!

So in among the various machines and tests they did was one with a Canon digital camera (very similar to the one I have) connected to it. I put my head on the chin rest like the other machines and BAMB there was a flash of really bright light. They did the same to the other eye and what you see here is the result! The bright spot on the right with the blood vessels going to it is the optic nerve and the darker spot on the left is the retina. All and all it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I am not really sure it was worth the $40 medically, but personally I probably would have paid $80 just because I think it is cool! Anyway, this is just the right eye, the left looks the same but opposite (click to make it larger). As for the rest of the exam, she said everything looked fine and she was looking forward to seeing me once a year for the rest of my life. I just hope they have more cool machinery next time!

Baby Watch – Week 6!

baby-development-6-weeks-pregnantWelcome back to another edition of Baby Watch where we are now into week six. This week hasn’t been all that different then last week or the week before other then Erin seems to be getting more and more tired. This in turn is leading me to feel more and more tired, and the dogs to feel about the same as they usually do. But otherwise it has been an uneventful week around here. Still no morning sickness to speak of, although everything Erin has read and heard indicates it could be coming right around the corner. I personally hope that she is spared, and by “she” I really mean “us” because while it will be “her” that is puking her guts out it will be “us” who pays the price for it.

rices-longgrainIn terms of what the baby website says it is now apparently OK to call it an embryo although I think I am going to just stick with baby. Other possibilities include pea-pod, worm, ityy bitty, or dude/dude-et. But embryo makes me think she is fixin’ to lay a chicken egg. The site also says you could clearly see it on an ultrasound now as it should be around 1/8 of an inch long, or about the size of a grain of rice. It goes on to say that the nervous system and major organs such as heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, are the first to form. Current heartbeat is around 80 beats per minute, or the same as mine every time I think about what is about to happen in a few short months. See ya next week!

PS – Thank you to everyone who left comments on last weeks update. It is nice to see that people are reading this and even nicer that they take the time to comment. We both really enjoy reading them very much, so thank you!
