Baby Watch – Week #12

baby-development-12-weeks-pregnant2Welcome back to Baby Watch y’all! We are in week twelve this week and that means we are reaching the end of the first trimester! Quite a milestone for everyone involved. At the end of this week the chances of anything really bad happening drop by 80%! Which means it will finally be safe for us to start telling people. Oops… Anyway, Erin has been feeling great and according to the book things should only get better over the upcoming 12 weeks.  While I am not able to share them with you for fear of being stabbed in my sleep, Erin and I have been taking pictures at various intervals and you can really see things changing when compared side by side. Otherwise there isn’t much else to report. We do have another baby doctor visit scheduled for next week so I am sure I will have some good stuff after that.

In other news the baby room has made zero progress since last week. Paint is still in the garage, and the room is not cleaned up yet. Although Erin did clean out the closet in the other bedroom in preparation for moving junk from one room to another. Cuz that’s how we roll! I have been instructed that the baby needs a closet, and all my stuff has to be moved out pronto! Now what a baby is going to do with a closet I can’t tell you, but since that is the room I keep all my guns in I didn’t argue with the plan.

summer-plumOn to the baby site, this week we are back to the food references. They say the baby is about three inches long, or the length of a plum. Facial features such as the chin and nose continue to become more defined and they say week 12 is when finger and toe nails develop. They also say we should be able to hear the heartbeat at our next doctors visit. Little do they know we already heard it at the ultrasound three weeks ago! But between you and me, I’m really looking forward to hearing it again next week. See ya~

Kids Mystery Trip

Tom and Kathy had the kids last night while Sarah and Adam were at a wedding. For something fun to do they told them that they were going on a mystery trip. Erin and I met them at a farm near our house where they had a huge corn maze, petting zoo, hay rides, and pumpkin patch. After which we went back to our house and watched football, carved the pumpkins, and played games. It was a fun time and the kids enjoyed it. I got a bunch of pictures on the Greatlandings photo site under the album Skylar & Cole Mystery Trip for y’all to check out. See ya~

Baby Watch – Week #11

baby-development-11-weeks-pregnant2Hello all, welcome back to Baby Watch! We are at week 11 now and things are progressing nicely. This week we had only one interesting development and that was Erin coming down with the Flu. She said she wasn’t feeling that well when she went to bed on Thursday night, and when I got up Friday morning she had only made it to the couch rather then work. Later that day we ended up at the doctors because I was told repeatedly by Erin that she was going to die. And if I am being honest typically when she gets sick I don’t hear a whole lot of whining, unlike myself who requires a full time nurse if my allergies act up. Anyway, we went to the doctor where they determined she did in fact have the flu and a 102 degree temperature. They also said she could even have H1N1 but since the test for H1N1 takes two days they said she needed to start treatment right away. Then as fast as it came on, it went away. Saturday morning she was feeling much better, and by Sunday night it was pretty much gone.

Other then that we have started getting what is going to be the babies new room ready. Cleaning up and getting some of the junk out, as well as making a trip to Home Depot for some paint. We also went to Babies-R-Us in order to get a wallpaper border that matching the crib set Erin wants. While we were there we took a thumbs-up_000look at some of the other stuff we will be needing. Having been there multiple times buying presents for about 100 baby showers over the past few years I thought I had a good handle on some of this stuff. But are you aware that pretty much every crib in that place was $400-$500!! Dresser things, rocking chairs, strollers, high chairs, etc. All of it costs an arm and a leg!! This place is worse then buying boat parts! On a related note, I am planning on putting a kidney on EBay so if your in the market keep an eye out for that.

On to the baby site! This week they say the baby is about 1.5 inches long, or the length of your thumb. They also say all the organs are in place and over the next 8-9 weeks the baby will increase in size by 30%. Kind of random but the site also says that during week 11 the babies ears move to their final place. Neat! See ya next week!

I Gotta Feeling

This has been floating around for a few weeks, but YouTube keeps pulling it because of copyright crap. Just in case anyone missed it this is the Black Eyed Peas on Oprah where they pulled off something pretty amazing. The good stuff starts at about 1:30 if you want to skip ahead a little. But if this doesn’t make you smile a little then your broken. Enjoy~

*Edit* New clip added, old one was pulled for copyright crap

Baby Watch – Week #10

baby-development-10-weeks-pregnant2Another week, another Baby Watch! Not near as exciting as last week because we didn’t have any doctor visits or cool ultrasound appointments. But being one week closer to having a baby is excitement enough for me. No real changes to announce. Erin has so far been lucky enough to avoid any real morning sickness, slowed down on the 2000 trips to the bathroom at night, and seems to be a little less tired then previous weeks. All good stuff that I’m hoping will only continue to get better as time goes on.

Nothing new for me either. I am still pretty amazed at the whole ultrasound deal from last week. It was so cool in fact we have started doing some research into getting a 3D/4D ultrasound down the road. We have seen pictures in some of the literature they gave us at the doctors office, and our dentist lady said they had it done when she was pregnant and really liked it. Since I paid $40 to get a picture of the inside of my eye, I think $100 for a 3D picture of the baby is a good deal. Our only concern is that since we are not finding out if it is a boy or a girl, we don’t want a 3D picture to ruin the surprise either.

50_states_quarter_obv_largeOn to the baby site this week we reach a small milestone. According to them (based on Mayo Clinic’s Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy) week ten is where the baby goes from being an “embryo” to being a “fetus”. Neither terms that accurately describe what I seen in that picture last week, so I will be sticking with baby. It says we are over a inch long now or about the length of a quarter. All the vital organs are developed, and it should have all its fingers and toes now. The coolest fact comes in the area of brain development where it says “Every minute, 250,000 new neurons (or first brain cells) are produced.” Pretty cool. See ya next week!

Holy Twister Batman!

This weekend Erin and I went down to the lake to hang out with Tom, Kathy and some of their friends. We also planned on getting the boat winterized and put away for the year. When we left Cincinnati it was raining, as we went it rained more and more, and harder and harder. When we finally got to the dock it looked like we were going to get a short break to carry the stuff down to the boat. So we grabbed all we could and headed down to the boat. Across the water a little ways we could see Tom and John near where Tom parks his boat. Then Erin said here comes the rain again.. and what came next was nothing short of crazy! It rained so much, and the wind blew so hard I said to Erin it felt like a tornado. Well when all was said and done, it was a tornado! You can see by the pictures it tore apart docks, snapped boards, and removed roofs. The worst of it happened to some poor little floating house that was completely destroyed. All the walls and roof where scattered in the water around the marina, while their furniture and stuff remained sitting there. The marina owner told us later that they found the roof to one of the houses up the hill in the woods somewhere. Crazy stuff! The only good side is to my knowledge no one was hurt.

Other then that it was a nice weekend! We got the boat put away and we had a fun time relaxing with everyone. Sad to think that boating is pretty much over for the year, but nice to think that by the time we go back next year to open the boat back up it will be me, Erin, and the baby going!

Pictures on the Greatlandings Photo Site under the Lake Trip 10-10-09 album.
