I have had a few questions regarding how to do certain things on the Greatlandings photo site so I thought I would put up some more info. I plan on doing a series of shorter write-ups like this one and then archiving them on the Pictures Page. So if you ever have a question on something from the photo site you can look on the pictures page and see if there has already been a post about it. Of course you can also just email me any time at and I will do whatever I can to help.
So on to the topic at hand, How to properly download pictures from the Greatlandings photo site.
This one is pretty easy but there is a small trick to make sure you get the best quality, highest resolution image. First step is to visit the Greatlandings photo site and pick the gallery you are interested in. In that gallery you will see a series of smaller thumbnail images on the left side of the screen, and a larger version of the selected image on the right. Simply navigate though the gallery or album using the arrows and page numbers located above the thumbnail images. When you find one you would like to save simply click on it to select it. This will bring up a larger version of that image on the right side of the page.
The next step is to place your mouse pointer over the larger image. You don’t have to click or do anything other then move the mouse pointer over the larger image. This will bring up a “fly out” menu as seen in the picture here. On that fly out menu there are several options for you to choose. The top option is a simple thumbs up or down to rank the photo The next set of options gives you a choice of sizes if you would like to view that image in a different size. After that is a symbol that looks like a lower case “i” in a blue box. Clicking here will bring up another box containing all the various details of the image such as what kind of camera was used, the focal length, if the flash fired, etc.
But it is the last option that we are interested in here. It is a picture of a folder with a green arrow pointing into it. Above this are the words “Save Photo”. By clicking the folder graphic you will be giving a dialog box to download the image to your computer. There are other ways to save images from the internet, one being to right click an image and select “Save As..” but if you remember back at the start I said there was a simple trick to all this. That trick is me telling you that by using the “Save Photo” option and NOT right clicking an image will get you the largest, highest resolution image available. And that is the file you want for saving to your computer, printing at home, or uploading to another site.
I hope that helps some, but as always if there are any questions just ask and I will be happy to help! See ya~
*Edit* I have made a quick video that shows some more info on saving and buying prints from the photo site. Thanks!
