Hi y’all, and welcome back to Baby Watch. We are at week 17 now and I have to say I wish we were at week #39 or so. Not because I am not loving every minute of this baby stuff, or doing these updates, but because everyday I get more and more excited and I just don’t think I can wait another 23 weeks!
Erin and I had another baby doctor appointment this week and they said everything is going perfect. The highlight was that we got to hear the heartbeat again. Like last time it was super fast, about 150 bpm according to the doctor but it was also much stronger and louder then last time. I guess I should not be all that surprised, we have gone from the size of a plum to the size of a large orange! We also got to schedule the next ultrasound in a few weeks, so we should have a few more pics to share then!
Other then that Erin is doing fine. She got her H1N1 shot this week, and unlike the last flu shot this one did not make her sick.
Here is what the baby site has to say for week #17 ~
Baby’s Growth and Development at 17 Weeks Pregnant
Between the 17th week of pregnancy and the 20th week, your baby experiences growth changes.
- Right now, your baby is about 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches long, or about the length of a large orange.
- Little hiccups continue and you might feel them!
- When you’re around 17 weeks pregnant, a necessary fat called brown fat develops under your baby’s skin. This will help keep her warm after birth. Later in your pregnancy, additional layers of fat develop.
- Air passages in your baby’s lungs finish branching.
- By your 17th week of pregnancy, your baby’s lungs prepare to take in oxygen.
See I told you it was the size of a large orange.! I am not sure if they are hiccups or what, but Erin swears she can feel the baby every once in a while. She said it feels like when your swimming and someone pushes water at you underwater. I tried to listen but didn’t her anything but gurgles, so for now I’m calling this “unconfirmed“. See ya next week!
