Baby Watch – Week #29

Welcome to Baby Watch for Week #29! As I said last week things are starting to move very slowly around here. I am not sure if it is because I am getting more and more excited, or if Erin has somehow managed to actually slow down baby growing at a molecular level. Either way the time span between week 28 and week 29 felt like 7 years rather then 7 days. But on the upside Erin and baby are both doing great. No problems or issues at all, and we have our regular two week appointment later this week. All and all things are slowly great!

Since we seem to have nothing but time on our hands I thought we could do something a little different this week. If you remember way back to the very first Baby Watch (Week #5) I said there was two things Erin and I would not be discussing, the sex and the names. So far at least half of us have held true to at least half of those things. But just because Erin and I are not going to be discussing names and what not, doesn’t mean you all can’t. Since you can vote in the poll on the left side of the site to guess the sex, I figured we should have a week dedicated to putting up names. So sign up, log in, and leave a comment with your picks for both Boy and Girl names. Who knows, maybe your suggestions will make the final cut!

Here is what we have no the baby site for Week #29~

Baby’s Growth and Development at 29 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby in the 29th week of pregnancy might be best described as long and strong!

  • Your baby probably weighs almost 3 pounds. From crown to rump she is about 10 inches long, about the length of a large cucumber.
  • Your baby’s activity probably keeps getting more frequent and stronger during the 29th week of pregnancy. Hold on — some of your baby’s jabs even might take your breath away!
  • Your baby already might be within almost 3 inches of her birth length, although she still has weight to gain to fill out.
  • During the next 11 weeks, she might more than double or almost triple her current weight. Much of this weight gain will happen as she gains important weight under her skin.

I’m not so sure about this weeks food item. Seeing as last week was Zucchini and now this week it is cucumber, feels a little like cheating if you ask me. But I can confirm the whole baby movements getting more frequent and stronger. Erin is constantly telling me that the baby is really moving around. Of course if she wants it to stop all she has to do is ask me to come put my hand on her belly. Crazy kid! See ya next week for the big 3-0!

Jackson Jackson Jackson!

Last weekend Steph and Andy brought little Jackson over to visit us and as usual I took some pictures.  As you can see he is getting bigger everyday and based on what he told me when no one was listening, I am his favorite big person who doesn’t live with him. I’m just sayin’..

I have added them to the Jackson Andrew album on the Greatlandings Photo Site. And just in case you were wondering they are ordered newest to oldest and also have the date they were taken underneath.

*Edit* Since I had some time I decided to mess around a bit in Photoshop. What I ended up with is an “Old Time” version of a photo. Not that Jackson is “old” just that the picture looks like it was from a long time ago, and is sort of worn out. I also made a little animation to show some of the steps along the way to making this picture. It is hard to tell on such a small size what the final version looks like, but you can see the full size one in the album or by clicking HERE.

Baby Watch – Week #28

Welcome to Baby Watch for week #28! After a couple of rough weeks Erin is feeling much better and her and baby are doing just fine. We had another doctors appointment last week (they come every two weeks now), and even the doctors agree that everyone is doing fine. The baby is moving like crazy and is to the point now that if your looking at the right spot, at the right time, you can actually see it on the outside of her belly. It is an odd sight, but pretty cool.

Other then that things are going smooth, but slow. Not much going on for the next few weeks. The next big thing we have coming up is our prenatal class but that is not for another couple of weeks. Otherwise it is just the regular boring doctors appointments. I keep asking Erin if the baby can please come out and play now, but she just keeps saying no. Boring!

Here is what the baby site has to say for week #28~

Baby’s Growth and Development at 28 Weeks Pregnant

During the 28th week of pregnancy, your baby wants to see what’s going on in his environment.

  • Your baby is about 10 inches long — roughly the length of an average zucchini. He weighs about 2 pounds.
  • His brain develops and expands.
  • Your baby may open his eyes in utero.
  • More fat accumulates under his skin.
  • He continues to take 20- to 30-minute naps with some routine.

Size of a Zucchini and 20-30 minute naps, sounds like the life to me! Roll on week #29…

Baby Watch – Week #27

Welcome to baby watch for Week #27, otherwise known as the start of the third trimester! That is right folks we are in the final third of this baby cook off and rapidly approaching the finish line. Erin and baby are doing great! Erin says she can feel the baby moving all the time now. I can still only get a bump every now and then, but when I do feel a little kick it is nothing short of amazing! Erin has been feeling a little better then before but still gets pretty sore now and then. Other then that there has not been much to report.

I am not privy to information on the wheres and whens of upcoming showers. I just know that they are happening at some point. After they are done I guess we can finalize getting the stuff we are going to need when the baby comes. Funny to think that in a few short months there will be a house full of baby stuff… oh yeah, and a baby! I did buy some outlet covers a couple of weeks ago. Might be a tad premature but it was all I could think of at the time. Erin will have to figure out what else we need to get and pass it on to me. But I can’t help but to feel a sense of urgency about getting ready for some reason.

Here is what we have on the baby site for week #27 ~

Baby’s Growth and Development at 27 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby gets very active at 27 weeks pregnant. Discover the other changes she’s going through:

  • At 27 weeks pregnant, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds, and is about the length of a head of broccoli.
  • Her lungs, liver, and immune system keep maturing.
  • She may know your voice and your partner’s voice.
  • During the 27th week of pregnancy, your baby is as much as four times longer than she was during the 12th week of pregnancy.

Well I can’t say that broccoli gives me a good feeling seeing as I have spent most of my life immediately saying “yuck” after hearing the work broccoli, but knowing that the baby might know my voice is pretty cool. See ya next week!

Frontline: Flying Cheap

Feels a little odd even talking about this seeing as I don’t even work there anymore, but I still find it pretty interesting. PBS has a series called Frontline and the recent installment is titled “Flying Cheap“. The episode talks about life at regional airlines like the one I worked at for 11 years. They also discuss the string of recent regional accidents like the one in Lexington, and the more recent one in Buffalo, NY.  The show originally aired today at 10:00 PM, but is being repeated several times over the next few days on PBS. You can also watch the entire program online HERE. Below is a short clip from the show and might be a little eye opening and scary to some.

Baby Watch – Week #26

Happy Wednesday, and welcome to week #26 of Baby Watch. This week we have some good news, and a little not so good news. The not so good is that Erin has started to feel quite a bit of pain in her bones and joints. The doctors don’t seem to be all that concerned right now and basically told her that is how it goes when you are pregnant. But she is still pretty uncomfortable. We have another appointment next week (they come every two weeks now) and she is going to talk to one of the other doctors and see what they think. Other then the she had her blood sugar check last week and everything came back normal, so at least that is one less thing to worry about.

The good news this week is that we got to have another ultrasound. Like I wrote last week the doctors thought the baby might be taking after its Dad and be a little on the big side, so they wanted to take another look. Turns out the baby is a little bigger then what it would normally be at this point, but not huge. Right now the baby is measuring as if it was 28 weeks along rather then 26 and weighs about 2 lbs 10 ozs. They also checked out all the other parts (avoiding the parts we asked not to see), and just like the last ultrasound everything was perfect. It is amazing to see how much different the baby looks now compared to the first two ultrasounds. In the beginning it was super tiny and the lady had to zoom in to see it, now it doesn’t even fit on the screen. So awesome! I have added them to the Ultrasound album on the photo site so be sure to check them out.

Here is what the baby site has to say for week #26 ~

Baby’s Growth and Development at 26 Weeks Pregnant

At 26 weeks pregnant, it’s exciting to think about what your baby looks like as his appearance becomes more refined:

  • By the 26th week of pregnancy, your baby weighs 1 1/2 to 2 pounds, and is about the length of a small pineapple.
  • Your baby’s eyebrows and eyelashes are well formed.
  • His eyes are fully developed — he will start to open and close them at around 28 weeks.
  • The hair on his head grows and thickens.
  • Little footprints and fingerprints form.
  • He starts using his lungs to mimic breathing.
  • Essential fats accumulate under his skin.

As you can see the baby site says the baby should be between 1.5-2 pounds right now and we are sitting at just under 3 pounds. Personally I am thrilled about that fact because that means there is no doubt the baby has my genes. Plus pineapple is my favorite fruit so I am very happy to see it make an appearance. What a great week!
