Baby Watch – Week #26
Feb 3rd 2010AdamBaby Updates
Happy Wednesday, and welcome to week #26 of Baby Watch. This week we have some good news, and a little not so good news. The not so good is that Erin has started to feel quite a bit of pain in her bones and joints. The doctors don’t seem to be all that concerned right now and basically told her that is how it goes when you are pregnant. But she is still pretty uncomfortable. We have another appointment next week (they come every two weeks now) and she is going to talk to one of the other doctors and see what they think. Other then the she had her blood sugar check last week and everything came back normal, so at least that is one less thing to worry about.
The good news this week is that we got to have another ultrasound. Like I wrote last week the doctors thought the baby might be taking after its Dad and be a little on the big side, so they wanted to take another look. Turns out the baby is a little bigger then what it would normally be at this point, but not huge. Right now the baby is measuring as if it was 28 weeks along rather then 26 and weighs about 2 lbs 10 ozs. They also checked out all the other parts (avoiding the parts we asked not to see), and just like the last ultrasound everything was perfect. It is amazing to see how much different the baby looks now compared to the first two ultrasounds. In the beginning it was super tiny and the lady had to zoom in to see it, now it doesn’t even fit on the screen. So awesome! I have added them to the Ultrasound album on the photo site so be sure to check them out.
Here is what the baby site has to say for week #26 ~
Baby’s Growth and Development at 26 Weeks Pregnant
At 26 weeks pregnant, it’s exciting to think about what your baby looks like as his appearance becomes more refined:
- By the 26th week of pregnancy, your baby weighs 1 1/2 to 2 pounds, and is about the length of a small pineapple.
- Your baby’s eyebrows and eyelashes are well formed.
- His eyes are fully developed — he will start to open and close them at around 28 weeks.
- The hair on his head grows and thickens.
- Little footprints and fingerprints form.
- He starts using his lungs to mimic breathing.
- Essential fats accumulate under his skin.
As you can see the baby site says the baby should be between 1.5-2 pounds right now and we are sitting at just under 3 pounds. Personally I am thrilled about that fact because that means there is no doubt the baby has my genes. Plus pineapple is my favorite fruit so I am very happy to see it make an appearance. What a great week!
