New Years Eve 2009!

In case you missed the official announcement from Ryan Seacrest last night, it was New Years Eve. Erin and I celebrated with about 15 other families at the Holidome near Dayton and we had a total blast. There was tons of fun stuff for the kids to do like swimming, games, free popcorn and cotton candy, ping pong, and a putting green. There was even a DJ who did some fun stuff like a limbo and hula hoop contests. The adults had lots of fun stuff to do as well like drinking, eating, getting drunk, and of course consuming alcohol. All of course except Erin and the other expecting mothers. They just stood around and laughed at the rest of us. All and all the night was a ton of fun and I am really glad Adam A. stepped up to get it planned. I would for sure go back to that place again. But I guess we have another 364 days to get that figured out.

I took a few pictures, but most of the credit goes to Erin. While I was preoccupied with drinking she stepped up and handled the camera for most of the night. You can check them out in the New Years 2009 album on the Greatlandings Photo site. Happy New Year y’all!

Happy 2010 Everyone!

To celebrate the new year I have a video for you all to see, and in my opinion it is nothing short of Amazing. I have cut and pasted the background story that goes with it below. But if you ask me it is a great message to start 2010 on. Happy New Year!

Stand By Me | Playing For Change | Song Around The World from Concord Music Group on Vimeo.

This cover of Stand By Me was recorded by completely unknown artists in a street virtual studio all around the world. It all started with a base track—vocals and guitar—recorded on the streets of Santa Monica, California, by a street musician called Roger Ridley. The base track was then taken to New Orleans, Louisiana, where Grandpa Elliott—a blind singer from the French Quarter—added vocals and harmonica while listening to Ridley’s base track on headphones. In the same city, Washboard Chaz’s added some metal percussion to it.

And from there, it just gets rock ‘n’ rolling bananas: The producers took the resulting mix all through Europe, Africa, and South America, adding new tracks with multiple instruments and vocals that were assembled in the final version you are seeing in this video. All done with a simple laptop and some microphones.

I don’t know about you, but it blew me away. Best version of Ben E. King’s classic I’ve ever heard in my life. And I’ve probably heard between five and two billion of them. [via Gizmodo and Playing for Change]

Minnesota Christmas 2009

Since I had not been home for Christmas in a very long time, Erin and I decided we would head up to Minnesota for the holiday this year. So we packed up the car last Friday afternoon and proceeded to head North. The drive up was pretty uneventful. The weather was nice, we spent the night after about 9 hours and finished up the next day. Erin and I took turns doing the driving so the 13 hours went pretty quick. Plus we listened to the audio book Erin picked called The 8th Confession by James Patterson. Which was an OK book, but I’m not sure I had ever listened to a chick flick before.

Once we got there I was able to introduce Erin to all sorts of fun Minnesota stuff she had never seen before like ice fishing, and snow measured in feet rather then inches. My Mom and Norm took us out for Bar Bingo and meat raffles at the local bar, and Grandma took us out to dinner at 4:00PM one night afternoon. We got to meet up with some of my friends I had not seen in a while and Erin got to go to her favorite place in Minnesota, the outlet mall. The week really seemed to fly right by. On Wednesday the snow started falling and continued off and on all the way through the rest of our stay, and our drive home to Kentucky making the trip home much slower and way more stressful. Thankfully we had a much better audio book called I, Alex Cross also by James Patterson that was picked out by me to make things go faster.

All and all the trip and Christmas with my family was really great. Even though we missed everyone here in KY/OH, I am super happy we were able to spend it in Minnesota with my family this year. Hard to beleive the next time I see my them it will be to introduce them to the baby!! We did take some pictures while we were up there, and you can check them out in the Christmas 2009 – Minnesota album on the Greatlandings Photo site.

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas! See ya~

Cincinnati Christmas 2009

IMG_4134aSince Erin and I will be in Minnesota all next week Tom and Kathy had us over this past weekend to celebrate Christmas with them as well as Adam, Sarah, and the kids. There was yummy food (Buddy Boy Pizza?!?!?!), bad football, and great presents. Cole and I put together the most awesome Lego airplane on the planet and Skylar did her best to win at Apples to Apples, Jr. Thanks to everyone for the great gifts, and thanks to Tom and Kathy for having us over. We will be thinking of you all when we are in Minnesota next week. Merry Christmas!

You can see the few pictures I took in the Cincinnati Christmas 2009 album on the Greatlandings photo site.

Thanksgiving 2009

Tom and Kathy were nice enough to have the family over for Thanksgiving this year. We had the most amazing food ever, and I have been enjoying the left overs for several days now.  In case you have not seen her yet, the little baby everyone is holding is Simmie and Julie’s new daughter Jada Payne. As usual I took a few pictures and have put them up to share. You can find them in the Thanksgiving 2009 album on the Greatlandings photo site. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well.
